Professor Associate Dean for Faculty and Staff Services, College of Education I am the Associate Dean for Faculty and Staff Services in the College of Education. I am also faculty in the Counseling Psychology Doctoral Program in the Department of Counseling and Human Development Services. I am also affiliated faculty with the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Institute (LACSI) at UGA. I graduated from Rhodes College with an undergraduate degree in Psychology and from the University of Notre Dame with my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology. I completed my predoctoral internship at Michigan State University, worked as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Florida, and an assistant professor at Indiana University Bloomington. I joined UGA in 2005. I was one of the founding members of the National Latina/o Psychological Association (NLPA) and am a past-president of NLPA (2007-2009) and I am currently an Associate Editor of the _Journal of Latina/o Psychology. My wife, Angie Romero-Shih is an academic advisor and I have five wonderful children: Javier, Isa, Nick, Emma and Guillermo. Research Research Interests: My research interests are in the development of Latina/o Psychology and the connections between ethnic minority psychology and other aspects of multicultural psychology. To this end I run an integrated research/service/outreach research program with an emphasis on the provision of services to the Spanish Speaking population of Georgia. I run a Spanish language clinic out of the Latin American Association (formerly ALCES) and supervise the work of Spanish speakers as part of IMPACT, the interdisciplinary behavioral health team at Mercy Hospital in Athens. I have chaired 35 students to the Ph.D. since 2002 and although they all have diverse research and practice interests, they are unified with a focus on multicultural competence and social justice.
