LACSI Graduate Certificate

Requirements

Five LAC-Related Graduate Courses

  • LACS 6311: Critical Concepts in Latin American and Caribbean Studies (required)
  • 4 additional graduate courses with significant LAC content from at least two disciplines. Two of the four courses must contain ≥ 75% LAC content (see list below), and one of the four courses can be an independent study with significant LAC content. A grade of B or better is required in all course work.
  • Language competence in Spanish, Portuguese, French, or Quechua. Non-native speakers must provide documentation or perform an oral proficiency test with a LACS-affiliated faculty member.
  • Students must demonstrate that they have done substantive research on an LAC topic through their thesis or other written work (see portfolio instructions).

In addition to the coursework, a dossier/portfolio documenting how students in the program have met the above requirements must be submitted for evaluation by the curriculum committee in order to be awarded the LACS graduate certificate. This will include examples of the student's research, writing, and other pertinent demonstrations of engagement with the LAC region.

Links to the portfolio instructions and the application form are both located at the bottom of this page.
