Thursday, March 5 2020, 5pm Gilbert Hall, 118 Cristina Iglesias Cristina Iglesia (University of Buenos Aires) will give a lecture in Spanish titled El pasado en el presente: el siglo XIX, un siglo trans, on Thursday March 5, at 5 pm, in 118 Gilbert Hall. Refreshments will be served. Iglesia’s lecture is sponsored by the Willson Center for the Humanities and Arts and the Department of Romance Languages, and is part of the GSO Romance Languages Colloquium guest lecture series. Iglesia is Emeritus Professor of Argentinean and Colonial Literatures and director of the Master’s Program in Spanish and Latin American Literatures of the University of Buenos Aires. She did pioneer scholarship on women’s writing in the 19th century and of narrative of captive women in colonial and 19th century literatures. She is the author of Dobleces. Ensayos de literatura argentina (2018), La violencia del azar (2003), Islas de la memoria. Sobre la Autobiografía de Victoria Ocampo (1996), and the section on captive women of Cautivas y misioneros. Mitos blancos de la conquista (1987). She co-directed the first volume of Historia critica de la literatura argentina, and has been the editor of several books, including El ajuar de la patria. Ensayos críticos sobre Juana Manuela Gorriti, Letras y divisas. Ensayos sobre literatura y rosismo, Rodolfo Walsh y Roberto Artl: El país del río. She is the author of two books of short stories, Corrientes (2010) and Justo entonces (2014). Some of her stories will appear in English translation in Tales of a Deep Land. Short Stories from Northeastern Argentina, forthcoming this year. Iglesia has held visiting professor and visiting scholar positions at Tulane University, NYU, Notre Dame, Université de Lille, Universidade de São Paulo, Universidade Federal de Rio de Janeiro Università degli Studi Roma III and the Ibero Amerikanisches Institut in Berlin.
