Orchids in Mexico City

The International Orchid Festival in Coatepec, Veracruz, has been held for the past 13 years, promoting the conservation and cultivation of orchids.

Yanet Aguilar reported in El Universal of Mexico City that Mexico has around 1,200 of the approximately 5,000 species of orchids that exist in the world. Although they grow throughout the country, Chiapas, Oaxaca, and Veracruz have the greatest diversity of orchids.

The festival takes place in Salón Texin, between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. More than 25 thousand flowers are exhibited and there are many activities for people of all ages, including workshops, samples of cultivation and care, editorial presentations, conferences, music, dance, folklore, painting, photography, chess, meditation, handicrafts, regional products, and gastronomy.
