Hull St.) & Hendershot's (237 Prince Ave.) This exhibit presents a collection of Latin American masks from the Center for Latin American Studies’ Andean and Amazonian Cultural Artifacts Collection at Ohio State University. Alongside are photographs of Diablada de Píllaro (Devil Dance of Píllaro) in the Ecuadorian province of Tungurahua taken by Ohio State Multimedia Journalism Lecturer Leonardo Carrizo. The majority of masks on display were donated by Ohio State alumnus Mark Gordon (The Ohio State University Libraries). Diablada festivals (Devil dances) are among the most widely recognized celebrations in Latin America. This exhibit narrates the Tunguipamba community’s participation in the Diablada de Píllaro of Ecuador. Each photograph recounts different aspects of the Diablada, documenting from start to finish, the community’s procession from their village of Tunguipamba to the center of Píllaro, including the transformation of individuals into traditional festival characters. Free and open to the public at LACSI’s Yellow House and at Hendershot’s, except during scheduled performances or when announced otherwise.
