Job description We are looking for a student employee for the summer and fall of 2024, starting as early as May 13, 2024 until December 13,2024. The position will mainly – though not exclusively – consist of work in three areas. First, the student will manage the online presence of the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Institute (LACSI) on social media and the institute’s website. Second, the student will assist LACSI staff in filing and collecting university data related to the Institute. And third, the student will assist LACSI in promoting LACSI courses, and organizing, promoting, setting up, and breaking down Institute or Institute-sponsored events, especially during Hispanic Heritage Month (9/15 to 10/15). Hourly rate: $15/hour Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Certification in Position Excellent writing, organizing, and interpersonal skills. Experience working with graphic design (e.g., Adobe Photoshop or InDesign); social media (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, X, and YouTube); HTML, Listserv, and web management; and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Outlook) software. Additional experience in audiovisual production, photography, and a background – including a major or a minor – on Latin America and Caribbean Studies will be especially valued. Primary functions include, but are not limited to: Creating and/or editing flyers for announcements, letters, basic spreadsheets, PDFs, etc. for LACSI’s website and social media accounts. Creating, updating, and uploading news articles, event announcements, and course offerings, on the LACSI website and social media accounts. Assisting LACSI staff in distributing printed course offering and event promotion materials. Assisting in creating and distributing bi-weekly newsletters on LACSI’s listserv. Filing and gathering data on LACSI, its students, and affiliated, core, and joint-appointment faculty, as well as their involvement, activities, and achievements within the scope of the Institute from 2016 to 2024. Assisting LACSI staff in organizing, promoting, setting up, and breaking down Institute events, particularly, during Hispanic Heritage month (9/15 to 10/15) Recording, photographing, or documenting LACSI-sponsored events. Additional Scheduled Information Must be able to work an average of 10 hours a week.
